Theo HowarthTeaches: Music Tech and Production
Over the years Theo has stage managed 8-10 piece bands for shows/festivals, some exceeding 10,000 people as well as managing a crew to rig lights and sound for festivals and private events and training a young apprentice in live sound and technical rigs involving performing to tracks using Digital Audio Workstations like Logic Pro X & Ableton Live 10.
Some notable events over the years include, Standon Calling Festival, Hamburg Pride, Silverstone GP events and Glastonbury Festival.
Alongside this, Theo has also been trained extensively in the studio, working with software, hardware and different recording techniques. Having worked and trained with various producers on a variety of records, Theo is now a freelance producer, engineer and session musician working privately with clients on projects/records. Recent projects include Patrick Walker of 40 Watt Sun, Savri, Georgie Sweet and Deborah Jordan.
Proficient at guitar, bass, drums, vocals and specialising in Cello (Grade 8) and piano/keys, Theo has developed and honed his skills, merging recording and mixing services with production and writing, providing artists with an expansive service; whether recording in the studio or on location.
Theo has also been writing music from a young age and is currently putting together a jazz/hip-hop inspired solo record under the pseudonym ‘Alija’ and is working on some projects with Italian producer ‘J. Raise, Jr’.
The last two years has also seen the rise of Vertaal, a nu-jazz project that Theo Howarth (keys,synths & production) and Ajit Gill (drums) lead and write for.
The pair have played sold out venues like Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Pizza Express Soho and The Jazz Cafe and have had the likes of BBC, GWJazz and Jazz FM radio play. The pair are set to release their debut extended mixtape on limited edition colour vinyl this March 2021.
Theo’s experience in the live event industry and the studio has allowed him to be able to cover a range of skills within music tech – from production/performance and writing, mixing, to hands-on recording/microphone techniques and understand of different audio equipment, whether software or hardware.
