  • At HCM Music Academy, we regularly raise money throughout the year – at end of term gigs, special events and through kind donations.

We’re thrilled to fundraise for our charity partner, Nordoff Robbins – the leading independent music therapy charity in the UK, dedicated to changing the lives of vulnerable and isolated people across Britain through music.

The charity believes music is for everyone and works to support thousands of people through their own Nordoff Robbins centres, as well as in partnership with a wide range of organisations including care homes, schools and hospitals.

Nordoff Robbins supports people of all ages and with a diverse range of challenges including autism, dementia, neurological disability and terminal illness. They work flexibly with people and respond individually to their needs and abilities.

    GET LOUD

Nordoff Robbins’ national awareness day is called Get Loud and occurs on 13th September each year. It allows the charity to reach more people in more places while providing more services to those in need. Get Loud’s official ambassador is TV presenter Claudia Winkleman, and a whole host of British musicians and bands have supported Get Loud in the past, including Anne Marie, Jake Bugg, Level 42, Ne-Yo, Jackmaster with Ben UFO, James Walsh from Starsailor, 67, Youngr, AJ Brown and Horse McDonald.

    CHANGING LIVES THROUGH MUSIC

Each year, Nordoff Robbins uses music to make a difference to the lives of many. Here are just some of their stories:

Evie was 17 when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour and the operation to remove it paralysed her left side and affected her voice. Singing was a huge passion for Evie, and music therapy has helped to improve her vocal strength, rebuild her confidence and recapture her identity.

Kenneth is 18 and has severe learning difficulties. He struggles with concentration in lessons, finding it hard to stay focused. Nordoff Robbins’ music therapy helps him engage and connect with others. Music therapist Seb works closely with Kenneth at Highfield School in Ossett where they improvise through music – playing on guitar, drums and creating songs together.

Ed is recovering from severe head trauma, after being hit by a speeding taxi five years ago. Music therapy has played a big part in his recovery – he arrived in hospital unconscious and six months later, walked out singing.

Genesis is autistic and faces daily challenges with his speech and communication. Music therapy is helping him extend his social and communicative skills, and develop his musical abilities.

Eddie is living with dementia. A gifted musician and previously a drummer in a band, music therapy helps Eddie reconnect with his passion and communicate where words fail him.

    HOW YOU CAN HELP

Donating just £20 can help a person living with dementia to communicate in a music therapy group session. Donating just £50 will help pay for one life-transforming music therapy session.
